INTRODUCTION
Godfrey Psalmist Zulu is one of the renowned gospel artists in Malawi who believes in
spreading the message of hope to the hopeless, preaching the grace of God through Jesus
Christ and contributing to the correction of generation trends which are affecting most people
today.
THE ARTIST
Godfrey Psalmist Zulu started gospel music in 2003. He is not talented kind of an artist but he
calls himself deposited artist. He believes that his music is not because of his talent but rather
something which God has deposited in him.
He released his first album in 2008 and it was called Nandisonyeza. It was a 10 track album and
it was released both audio and video. Tracks like Murena, Anandisonyeza and Tangodzuka
enjoyed the airwaves early 2010 through 2012.
Later in 2014, he released another album called Mundidzidzimutse. It was also both audio and
video. Tracks like Kolona, Mundikonze, Hosanna (recorded in RSA and in Zulu language) and
Mundidzidzimutse were celebrated mostly through radio, TV and public performances.
In 2017, he also released his third album called Patsogolo. In this project, he worked with
different artists and groups like Allan Chirwa, late S’fiso Ncwane (South African music icon may his soul rest in peace) and some local groups. Some of the songs in this album were
recorded at Ncwane Communications in RSA.
After this album, he went on a sabbatical leave and a comeback album is yet to be released. It is
called Tomorrow which so far 6 singles have been released. Tracks like Lipatse Moto Pemphero
(amapiano vibe), Ndinu Mpulumutsi, Zakukhosi (gospel cover), Udzatsala Wekha, Umunthu
and Ndiimabe. These singles are currently enjoying play time both on radios and on TV. These
singles are also enjoying a massive downloads and live streams on online music outlets (both
local and international).
NEW PROJECTS
On 30th April, 2023, he will release another hit song called Moyowu (expected to feature Joyous
Celebration icon Takesure Zamar). This will be his sixth single from his fourth album called
Tomorrow. He has a set of musical timelines aligned this year and by the December, he is
anticipating to release the whole album which will have 11 tracks.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Godfrey Psalmist Zulu is a multi-lingual gospel artist. He recorded songs in seven different
languages (four locals – Chichewa, chiyao, chisena and tumbuka). He is the first artist to record
a song for the peoples Team – Nyasa Big Bullets called Tisapote Yabwino Ya Bullets. He is the
first artist to sing a Yao gospel song in Malawi. He has managed fellow artists and gospel music
events. One of the most recognized event was the Come Back for Allan Chirwa which took
place at COMESA in 2018.
He is also good at concept writing and idea formulation when it comes to music and
performances. He founded Psalm Celebrations – a music record label and talent identification
company which is keen to make sure that local and upcoming artists are given opportunities.
He registered an organization called Generation Trends Foundation which is providing sychosocial support to vulnerable young people below the age of 30 in 7 districts.
EDUCATION AND ASSOCIATION
Godfrey Psalmist Zulu is a holder of the Master’s degree in Infrastructure and Cyber Systems
security (MIT – 2021), MBA in Management Information Systems (UNICAF – on going),
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science obtained at Stellenbosch university, he is currently
studying a master’s degree with University of Stanford. He also has more than 42 Computer
Certifications and he is the first person in Malawi to develop a Soccer Mobile App for Owinna.
Godfrey Psalmist Zulu is currently working as Deputy Director at NRB – DDNR. He is also a
chairperson for GTR Group (a nine-member group of companies doing civil engineering, ICT,
agriculture, mining, medical and laboratory, auto-machines etc). He is a member of World
Computer Forensic Association, a member of ITU and a member of the Cyber Security Forum.
INFLUENCE
There are a number of artists who have influenced his music in total both local and internatiol,
but Vuyo Mokawena, Benjamin Dube, George Mkandawire and S’fiso Ncwane have been his
core models in music. His love for gospel music and the passion for preaching the good news of
Jesus Christ has been founded by these great artists and many others who have the same
ideologies musically while having a kingdom citizen mind.Other artists like Ed Sheeran have also encouraged him to working as an individual. He said;
“music is a powerful tool to galvanizing people around an issue”. This means, we can use
music to provide spiritual, social and mental support to the public. What we need is to so
innovative when making our compositions.
Late Vuyo Mokaena said; “musical artists are pathfinders and so they must be vigilant enough
to make sure their followers are taking a proper route”.
These statements made Zulu what he is becoming now, and through this he has learnt to avoid
competing with anyone else. His desire is to keep pushing using his pace and making sure that
he doesn’t loose focus.

CONCLUSION
Godfrey Psalmist Zulu is passionate to see music industry grow bigger and better. He is keen to
develop a platform for hope, encouragement and overall preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Together we can change someone’s life. Music is always needed in all situations people
are facing. When we are sad, music needed, when we are happy music is needed, when we are
grieving music can comfort us and sorts. He is committed to continue writing and producing
songs of hope regardless of whatever comes his way.
