Pastor Paul S Phiri was born on 15 January 1981 in a family of 7 brothers and 1 sister but 2 brothers are late.Right now they are 6 of them.He is the 4th born from the Family of Mr and Mrs Phiri.
He was born and bred at Bvumbwe in Thyolo district.He did his primary and high school at Bvumbwe from 1991 to 2002. He did his theology at Christ’s Mercy Bible College in 2005 to 2007,From 2013 to 2014 at WFBC Durban and from 2021 to 2023 at Durban Christian Centre Bible Institute.
He is a Pastor, a gospel artist, a business man and he is currently working at Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (Durban Magistrate court) as a court Interpreter.In music, he started singing at the age of 13 in 1994 in Phiri’s family choir that expanded to a big choir and it was changed a name to Osala Simbani choir, In 1998 he started composing his own songs.In 1999 he met late pastor Grey Samani who introduced him to some other artists, the likes of Hon Billy Kaunda, Phungu Joseph Nkasa, late Grace Chinga, Madalitso Chisale, Gloria Manong’a, Mlaka Maliro and sir Elton Kazembe. His closeness to them brought a huge hunger and the courage for music. In 2002 he recorded his first single at Baptist Media Center and Late Pastor Grey Samani helped him to record this single tittled Pemphera.
In 2003 he began work with Pastor Grey Samani, he was helping to polish and rearrange the rylics of the songs for the upcoming artists. Since they were recording with the analogue, there was a need of polishing the songs before recording them. He had the hunger for learning more about composition and arrangements of the songs. He approached sir Emmanuel Gonthako and learned much from him, he recorded his second single in 2004 tittled Lapani Tchimo.
In 2005 he recorded his second single tittled Pothawira panga. In 2008 he continued to learn more about music from Lloyd Phiri and he was spending much of his time at Lohay Studios at Chilobwe. In the same year he recorded his first album tittled Salvation.All these years he was serving God at Jesus Pentecostal Church and Glad Tidings Church.
In 2009 he relocated to South Africa and he started working in the same year. In 2012 he started doing a small scale business. In 2016 he started another business of making and selling custom made furniture, traded as Rays Furniture and upholstery and he is still operating the same.
The journey for music was paused for 6 years and he did another single in 2015 tittled Bwelera and again he paused for 7years and he recorded his second album tittled Yesu Salephera in 2022.He regards this as his first album as he sold the rights of his first album to Mr Chitsulo. Salvation became Mr Chitsulo’s project so he disregard that one as his first album.
Yesu Salephera has 12 tracks and he worked with Pastor Mlaka Maliro in Landitseni, Hends Mulinga in Abwera Posachedwa, Praise Mnyandu Palibe Wofanana Nanu, Allan Jogi and Gloria Manong’a in Amasamala, Memory Banda in much of the songs. 7 songs were recorded at Passion Media Studios by Maxy, Landitseni by Mussah Mulera and Peter Likhomo, Pemphera, Pothawira Panga and Salvation by late Pastor Grey Samani.
He is currently residing in South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, Durban.
